SOUTH STREET BRIDGE |PHILADELPHIA, PA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

BRIDGE DESIGN AND RECONSTRUCTION

Replacing the crumbling existing 1920's bridge, designed by H2L2's founding principal Paul Philippe Cret, the new bridge design needed to utilize the existing piers. Headed by the Mayor and Deputy Major of Philadelphia, three options were proposed and one of the options was selected and constructed as designed. The four towers welcome people coming into Philadelphia heading westbound on Interstate 76 just below Center City, Philadelphia. Each tower features a fritted glass paned lantern that refracts the light coming from the LED panels within the tower's structure. The LED lights are programmable and change periodically and for specific occasions.
